Welcome once again to the Friday’s Food for Thought Post. We hope everyone had a productive work week and is ready for some weekend relaxation. We have all seen the thriller/espionage movies where GEOINT plays a major role in capturing the protagonist in the story (think Bourne Ultimatum). Well, it seems that GEOINT has infiltrated another entertainment sector: gaming. So, this week’s FFT post theme is all about video games and GEOINT. And, you will see that this is a video-heavy FFT post. We hope you enjoy and happy Friday!
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Contains GEOINT Elements; One-Day Sales of $310 Million (Wow)
It just so happens that the most popular video game to hit the market these days — Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 — contains some very interesting geospatial elements. The trailer below for the game is mind-blowing. And, speaking of mind blowing the game reached a one-day sales record of $310 million. Wow.
GeoEye’s Satellite Data Used in UbiSoft’s New Tom Clancy Game, H.A.W.X.
Speaking of video games and geospatial intelligence, USGIF member company GeoEye had its imagery data integrated into UbiSoft’s video game, Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X., a modern jet combat game set above real-world locations. GeoEye made a serious splash with this game at GEOINT 2009. Rightfully so, check out this video below with more information about this integration.
Kicking a Satellite Out of the Sky
In continuing with our video-heavy FFT post, this Snickers commercial is a must-see. Indianapolis Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri is seen here kicking a satellite out of the sky. I’m sure China wishes it was that easy to bring down a satellite.
Video Killed The Radio Star
Since this post is all about video, we had to feature “Video Killed the Radio Star,” the song by the British synthpop/New Wave group The Buggles that catapulted MTV into being the pop culture sensation it is today. Although we admit the song is about music videos taking over the world – not video games per se. Anyhow, something fun to enjoy on a Friday!
Hope you have a nice weekend!
