The video shows different content (layers/scale) of the map when the angle of paper map is adjusted.
Will 21st technology save the decline in paper maps? [A Techcrunch Video]
Users of new mobile phones are likely to have the technology (GPS-A-GPS), but do they know how or want to use it? The paper map is always a saver when the battery is dead or the internet has returned an error.
“The three Images are interlaced by alternating horizontal strips from each. The resulting compound image is calibrated to a specially designed polymer lens substrate. Lenses contain between 60 to 200 micro-lenses per inch, depending on the desired outcome. This is mounted to a backing, die cut and packaged”

Joe Biden’s Life Journey

Mibazzar, whose maps of Obama and McCain’s life journeys feature prominently in Google’s Elections ‘08 Map Gallery, has now produced a Google Map showing Joe Biden’s life from his birth in Scranton, Pennsylvania to his nomination as Obama’s running mate.
The map animates through the important events in Biden’s life, creating a polyline from one event to the next. It is possible to turn off the autoplay feature and scroll through the life events manually. You can even scroll backwards to reread earlier events.
Expect another life journey map as soon as McCain names his running mate!

Google have released two new ways to find a web user’s location without requiring any user input.
1. The AJAX API Property

The AJAX API Property retrieves an approximate location from a user’s IP address. Google Blogoscoped has released an example Google Map that uses the AJAX API property to centre the map on the user’s location and provide the results of an image search based on the user’s location. The map is called Where are You?
2. The Gears Geolocation API
The Gears Geolocation API provides a way to get a more precise estimate of a user’s location. On mobile devices with Gears installed, the Geolocation API can triangulate a location on nearby cell-phone masts to get a more accurate position fix.
